William Dawson Boyd - born in Sarnia, Ontario, July 9th, 1926, died at University Hospital in London, Ontario on May 24, 2018 surrounded by his family. Bill started work in 1946 for the Sarnia Observer, then to Sarnia Bridge Company for 12 years starting in 1948. He retired from Sandercock Construction in 2008. He became interested in the game of softball in 1947 and in 1950, became the first Chairman of the Sarnia Minor Athletic Association. From 1954 to 1980, he was the secretary of the Sarnia Softball Association. He became the announcer for the Gliss and later the Ranson teams throughout the 80s. In 1978, he was selected as “Sportsman of the Year” by the Sarnia Sertoma Club and in 1984 he was inducted into the Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall of Fame in the Special Achievement Category. In the 1990s, he assisted the SMAA in having PA work for their playoffs. Bill was interested as well in girls’ softball and served as Secretary-Treasurer of Big Four Ladies Fastball League which at one time had teams from Sarnia, Goderich, Florence, Stratford, Windsor, Hamilton and Galt. Bill was known as Mr. Softball. Bill is survived by his sister Doreen Francis of London and nieces Susan Price, Wendy Francis and nephew Brian Francis (Sergio), great-nieces Katelyn Dugal (Kevin), Jaclyn Price and Ella Francis and great-nephew Ryan Price. Funeral services will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St., N7T 5W9, Sarnia) on Wednesday, May 30th, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm prior to the service. Cremation will follow and a private Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery later. In lieu of flowers memorial donations made to Central United Church (cheques only) would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the D. J.
