Wilfrid Coulter

Wilfrid Coulter, age 94 of Sarnia, passed away on July 30, 2023, following closely behind his wife and partner in life of 70 years, Marie, who died May 3^rd this year. Wilfrid is survived by his children Steve (Carol) and Karen (Jon) and grandchildren Travis, Hannah, and Victor and his step grandchild Viviane. He was predeceased by his son Chris. Wilf was born in St. Thomas, Ontario in 1928, the youngest of five brothers and sisters. He received an engineering degree from the University of Toronto, where he met and married Marie in 1952 in Marie’s sister Lydia’s backyard. After a short stint in Brockville, they arrived in Sarnia. Wilf practiced engineering for several years but although he was precise in his calculations, he was perhaps more interested in people and took an opportunity to switch to the Human Resources department where he spent many years while employed by Polysar in Sarnia. The couple was fortunate to ultimately retire to a waterfront property on Lake Huron, a constant joy for Wilf who would spend hours looking out on the lake but did not spend a lot of time in the water! Wilf was a devoted and loving husband, a fine role model to his children and grandchildren, contributed to the community as a foster parent and active volunteer, and once retired, found great pleasure in designing and building their retirement home as well as whacking golf balls both in the backyard and at Huron Oaks. Wilf was solid, dependable, and precise but also had a bit of a wild side that enjoyed stock market thrills and tolerated certain eccentricities – Wilf, you will be missed.  The family will be forever grateful to the team at Trillium Villa that went above and beyond the call of duty these past months, preceded by the Victoria Order of Nurses, Meals on Wheels, and Shine at Home for their exemplary professionalism while Wilf and Marie were at home during and after COVID.
