Florence (Virginia) Huggins-Egan September 1, 1922 - July 18, 2017
At Twin Lakes Terrace Nursing Home, Sarnia, with her family by her side, Virginia died on July 18, 2017 at the age of 94. Beloved wife of over 50 years to the late Donald Stewart Huggins (1988), and the late Joseph Martin Egan (2009). Loved mother of Nancy Hedley (Jeff), Terry Huggins (Maria), and Gayle Fowler all of Sarnia. Predeceased by her parents Florence and Gordon Chambers and siblings, Ray Chambers, Bob Chambers( Lily), Fred Chambers (Carol) and Violet Atyeo (Gene). Virginia also lost her best friend Marg Johnson (Good Night Marg) (2016) her best friend for over 70 years.
In September of 2000, Virginia married her old high school sweetheart at age 78. Joe Egan brought Virginia nine new stepsons and daughters: Phil (Laurie) of Sarnia, Larry (Rita) of St. Catharines, Vince (Marilyn) of Sarnia, Barbara Swanson (Ian) of Sarnia, Beverly Stratton (Dave) of Sarnia, Mary-Jane (Pete) of London, Vici of Hong Kong, Paul (Lorna) of Lansing, Michigan, and Cort (Tara) of Guelph.
Virginia was also blessed with numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Virginia was always ready to help her community and was active with the Girl Guides of Canada (50 years) also acting as Madam Commissioner during this time. She belonged to the Sunshine Foundation (20 years) and Meals on Wheels (15 years). She was also a member of the Trefoil Guild (30 years), Bell Club (65 years) and 'True and Faithful friends' for 65 years.
Virginia was genuinely a sweet lady and known to be a kind heart, always giving of herself to others, even with her last wishes. Virginia has donated herself to the science program at the University Hospital in London Ontario, in the understanding and hope that perhaps there may be a learning experience that could help others.
The family would also like to thank the dedicated care givers at the Sarnia Lambton Branch of the Canadian Red Cross, the Victorian Order of Nurses, and a very sincere and special thank you to the staff at Twin Lakes Terrace Nursing Home for their compassion, care and quality of life provided to Virginia over the last two years.
On Saturday July 29th, a Celebration of Virginia's life will take place at St Paul's Anglican Church, Michigan Avenue, Point Edward, Ontario, starting at 11:00 a. m. with a reception to follow in the Brand Hall.
