It is with deep regret that the family must report the passing of Steve Oreskovich in his sleep on the morning of August 20, 2023 at the age of 80. Steve was preceded by his loving wife of 30 years Edith (nee Bicum) in 2006. He is survived by his son Jeremy and grandson Alden.
Better known as radio personality and singer Steve Glenn, he entertained and informed generations in Sarnia and elsewhere both on-air and with his live musical performances. His engaging personality and love of country music won him not only loyal listeners but also awards from the industry and the accolades of his peers. Born in Schumacher (Timmins), Ontario in 1943, Steve entered the radio business in Kirkland Lake in the early 1960s. In 1965 he made the move south to CHOK Radio in Sarnia where he would spend the next decade and a half as a morning DJ. 1980 saw a move to CKBY in Ottawa, and in 1982 he went west to Calgary to help start up CKRY before returning to Ottawa later that year. The radio business is nomadic in nature; after another year in Ottawa, he returned with his family to his hometown of Timmins in 1983 for a five-year stint at CFTI. He finally returned to Sarnia in 1988 to finish out his career at CKTY, retiring when the station changed format in 1999.
Steve was also an active musician, singing and playing country music at fairs, jamborees and bars until forced into retirement from live music by COPD.
Over his life and career, Steve gave his time generously to many charitable causes; from performing at benefit concerts, to Camp Day and McHappy Day events, to manning telephone banks for Muscular Dystrophy telethons. He believed that giving back to the community was something one just did, rather than something one was obliged to do.
Per Steve's wishes, there was no funeral. Instead, let us each remember a man whose kindness touched everyone he met, and made his memory a happy one. He will be deeply missed.
The arrangements have been entrusted to the D. J Robb Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 102 N. Victoria St., N7T 5W9. Memories, photographs or messages of condolence may be shared through www.djrobb.on.ca
