SMITH, SHIELA – Peacefully at Vision Nursing Home on Saturday, December, 7th, 2019, Shiela Margaret Shields Smith, age 89 of Sarnia passed away. Shiela was the daughter of Sgt. George Smith (Sarnia Police Department) (1966) and Mabel (Bowler) Smith (1970). She is survived by several cousins. She was also predeceased by her brother Lloyd George Smith (1995). Shiela was born in Sarnia and from an early age became a part of Sarnia’s musical heritage. She was a graduate of SCITS and the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto. Shiela became a secretary at Imperial Oil both at the Sarnia Refinery and the Law Department in Toronto. Following her retirement she returned to Sarnia in 1987 and soon resumed her musical career both professionally and as a volunteer at many hospital and nursing home events as Sarnia’s “Lady in Red”. She will be missed by her many friends and musical partners particularly Fred Perlman, Rhoda and Noel Gaspar, Keith Williamson and Irene McLellan. She was a lifelong member of Central United Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St, Sarnia, ON, N7T 5W9) where visitation will be held on Sunday, December 15th between the hours of 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Funeral and Committal services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 16th at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in Shiela’s memory may do so to the Lambton County Music Festival, The Lambton Heritage Museum or the Sarnia Historical Society (cheques only please at the funeral Home).
