Ronald Ross Baines

Ronald Ross Baines of Mooretown, on August 5, 2021 has passed away at age 65 after a brief but hard-fought battle with cancer. He has joined at rest his beloved Bouviers des Flanders dogs Honji, Karri, Sharo, and Sydney. His world was at home with his best friend and wife of 37 years Debbie, his constant companion bouvier Winnie, and in spending time with his doting mom Dorothy. Her son - “her Ronnie” - is predeceased by his father Ross (2005), his sister Sandy (2010), and his brother Gary (2010).

A retired pipefitter and very proud member of Local 663 for over 45 years, Ron had many friends and felt a responsibility to the safety and well-being of skilled trades, and of preserving fine craftsmanship and pride in a job well-done. Like his dad, Ron was a dedicated steward of elite collectibles, and through his artistry and imagination, he delighted in recreating valued treasures.
Ron was kind and generous to his nieces and nephew, and to the following generation. He instilled the value of quality tools of yesteryear, and of a simpler time gone by. Being with Ron meant being never far from water – from growing up in Point Edward and swimming under the bridge, to his trailer at the harbour in Goderich, to cruising the St Clair River from his home in his antique boat – he was happiest enjoying these simple pleasures in his own space – with two-legged and four-legged friends alike. Not that he wasn’t a fierce competitor! Hockey, baseball, motocross and golf teams all benefitted from Ron’s skill in sport over the years.
Ron’s wife Deb is so very grateful to the dedicated staff at Bluewater Health’s Palliative Care Clinic, ( www.bwhf.ca ) and at St Joseph’s Hospice (https://stjosephshospice.ca ). Any expressions of sympathy to these worthy organizations would certainly reflect the loving and dignified care given to Ron in his final days. Ron was a very quiet and unassuming man. In lieu of a big fuss and funeral, we ask that how Ron lived his life be an example. Be kind to an animal. Hug your mom. Add some spit and polish to an old treasure. Do something nice for someone else today in honour of Ron Baines. Thank you.
