Robert aka Bob, Bobby, Bobette, Umberto Degrassi, Christopher Cross, Ted Fox, Robert Randolph, Alice McKay, (and to his close friends, Diane), died on September 26th., 2022, by manner of not waking up.
Robert’s radio voice, cutting wit, penchant for controversy, and talent with words earned him many awards, grants, and accolades, and he never shied away from the use of a good ‘nom de guerre’.
Before declaring himself retired, he was a self-anointed Multi-Media Man, taking on the roles of producer, director, writer, editor, broadcaster, researcher, and consultant across all mediums: radio, television, film, print, and the stage.
Over the decades he worked for and appeared on CTV, CBC-TV & Radio, BBC-TV & Radio as an award-winning broadcast journalist and documentarian. His stories have been published in Canadian magazines and newspapers a hundredfold and his voice heard from coast-to-coast-to-coast. Upon settling into Sarnia, Ontario, he worked for the Sarnia Gazette, Huron Church News, as well as many other publications and productions.
He was getting up there in age and therefore predeceased by many but is survived by his loving wife, Janice, with whom he spent 50 of his 80 years and their three children Hilary (Michael), Lindsay (Dustin), and Hunter (Jenna) and grandchildren Penelope, Winifred, and Archer.
Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will mark the occasion on a future date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a fledgling theatre group or kids' sports team would have made him happiest.
