Ray Vernon

June 18, 1930 — July 4, 2009

It is with sadness that the family of Ray Vernon announces his passing on July 4th, 2009 at the Palliative Care Unit of Bluewater Health Norman St. Ray is survived by his beloved wife Liz (Muir). Cherished father of Janice of Port Carling. John of Sarnia and Michael (Melissa) of Harrow and proud Papa of his three grandchildren Mathew, Meg and Riley. He is also survived by his sister Pat Phipps (Don) and brother Hartley (Sally) of Thornbury, sister in-law Mavis Vernon - Beer and brother in-law and sister in-law Bob and Heather Muir of Fonthill. He was predeceased by his parents Ewart and Edith (Flynn) Vernon. Brother Stanley and nephews Gary and Scott Vernon. Ray was employed at Imperial Oil Limited 38 years. Ray loved sports and was active in the sports community. He played basketball and then for forty years refereed basketball at local and surrounding schools. He was an avid golfer and played for many years at the Sarnia Golf Club. Ray was inducted into the Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall of Fame in 1990, receiving the Bud Morrison Builders Award, and then in 1995 for the Sarnia Nationals Baseball Team. In 2000 he was on the Mayors Honor List. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at the D.J. Robb Funeral Home on Wednesday July 8th at 11:00 am. Visitation will be on Tuesday July 7th from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 7:00 - 9:00 pm. As an expression of sympathy donations to the Palliative Care Unit of Bluewater Health or Huron House Boys Home would be appreciated by the family. (cheques only please).
