At Bluewater Health on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024, Maurice George Auger, at the age of 92 of Sarnia, passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He was the loving partner, best friend and soul mate of Betty-Anne Blok-Andersen for the past 22 years. He was the adored & loving father “PA” of Tania Liz Marie Auger, Brett Joel Auger, and Lynn Marie Lillian Auger all of Sarnia. He was much loved grandpa of Brody, Georgia Auger (Dale) and Dixon Auger-Pennesi. He was stepdad to Christine Jane Blackwood, and Moe to her sons Spencer and Logan Bramwell who all loved him very much. He is also survived by sister-in-law Mary Jane Foley (Bob) and brother-in law Bob Tyrie (Sharon), seven Morin nieces and nephews, their spouses, and families to whom he was a very special much loved uncle. He was predeceased by his parents Leon Athanuase Auger and his mother Gabrielle (Pepin) Auger, his sister Lillianne (Auger) Morin, and her husband Emmanual Morin. Maurice was a loving and caring man who was admired by all who knew him. He had many interests, and there was nothing he couldn’t do, or fix, and he was a perfectionist regarding every job he tackled. He loved to cook, and often treated his family to his delicious creations.
He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 530. He received his 70 year Membership Plaque and IBEW 70 year gold pin with a diamond, on December 9th of 2022 at the Local 530 Christmas Party. It was quite an event, Maurice was piped in with his son by his side, his whole family was there in attendance, and needless to say we were all so proud. He was admired and respected by his apprentices, many of whom attended to congratulate him on that very special evening.
Maurice had a passion for travelling in motorhomes his whole life, and enjoyed many wonderful trips. Maurice and Betty-Anne spent many winters travelling and spending time with their families, in Manzanilla, Arizona, and Bradenton, Florida for many years. They spent many good times fishing on Manitoulin Island, in the summer and also with his very special friend Bill George of Kettle Point. He loved to visit his sister and her families at their cottages in the Gatineau. Those were very wonderful times. One of their special trips was to New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Cape Breton to visit family and friends, and what a spectacular trip that was too. They also travelled to Vancouver one summer to visit Christine, and the boys, travelling through the US on the way out, and then travelled through Canada on the way back. There were so many wonderful memories, and very blessed to have enjoyed so many happy times. He loved to play Euchre, and so does Bet, they played at the Moose Lodge in Florida, The Legion and the Navy Club in Sarnia, making good friends, and yes, having more good times. Spending time with family was his favourite thing to do. When we think of him our memories will be of the kind, generous, and fun loving person that he always was.
Special thanks to the Doctors and the wonderful nurses at Bluewater Health Palliative Care. He appreciated the love and care you all gave him so generously.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Maurice’s life will be held at a later date. Donations to the charity of your choice will be appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to the D.J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia, N7T 5W9. Memories, photographs and messages of condolence may be shared through www.djrobb.on.ca
