Lloyd Mason

It is with great sadness that our family announces the sudden passing of
RAYMOND "LLOYD" MASON on Fri. Jan. 10, 2014. Lloyd died at the Tillsonburg (Ont.) Cemetery where he was attending the gravesite service for Mrs. Ruth Nunn, his daughter-in-law's mother. Cherished husband of Wilhemine "Willie" (Waghorne) Mason for 56 years, beloved father of Ian and Laurie (Fournie) Mason, Brigden, Ont., and Brett and Ruth (Nunn) Mason, London, Ont. Very much loved Papa of Madison "Maddie" Hope Mason and Nathan Raymond Mason who lost their Grandma Nunn and Papa Mason in the same week. Predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Allan and Betty; Neil; Lewis and Bev. Survived by his sister Sheila (Gene) Graham, Petrolia and sisters-in-law Grace Schultz Mason (Allan), Sarnia, and Val Mason (Neil), Marysville, Mich. Many nieces and nephews remember him fondly.
Born in Brigden, Ont. on Mar. 3, 1934, Lloyd was the son of Bill "Bud" and Elzora (Taylor) Mason. Dad's family moved from Brigden to Sarnia in 1943 for his father's employment at Purity Dairy. Dad was drawn to the basketball program offered by St. Paul's United Church under the guidance of its revered volunteer boys' leader, counsellor and coach, Stan O'Neil. Mom and Dad met through church and S.C.I.T.S. and were married at St. Paul's on May 18, 1957. A graduate of Ryerson Institute of Technology, Toronto with a diploma in Merchandising Administration, Dad worked at various jobs in Sarnia and Toronto before being hired in 1960 by Ethyl Corporation of Corunna where he was employed as an accountant, and later pay master and Human Resources Supervisor. He retired from Ethyl in 2001. A former elder, Dad was involved in many committees at St. Paul's throughout the years and served as Sunday School superintendent when attendance averaged 225 children in the early 1970s. Dad also served as a director of the Moore Credit Union from 1973 to 1982. He was a member of the Administrative Management Society, International Chapter and served as President from 1984-1985, as well as a member of the Bluewater Management Seminar Committee of which he served as Chair in 1983. Dad retired in Apr. 2013 as a director of the St. Paul's Outreach Foundation which manages the Sandpiper, a seniors' condominium.
The family records its heartfelt gratitude to Allyson Veinot and Kelly Murphy, friends of Ruth Mason, who immediately performed cpr in a valiant effort to keep Dad on this side of eternity for a little more time.
Thanks be to God for His blessing of allowing our family to live in the amazing love and care of such an outstanding husband, Dad and Papa.

Rev. Brenda MacMain will lead the memorial service at St. Paul's United Church,360 Devine Street, corner of Devine and Emma Streets, on Fri. Jan. 17, 2014 at 12 noon.

Visitation 1 hour prior.

A reception will follow.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements through D. J. Robb Funeral Home, Sarnia. (www.djrobb.on.ca)
