HERWEYER, KITTY (CORNELIA) – At Bluewater Health on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, Kitty (Cornelia) Herweyer, nee Degenaars of Sarnia passed away peacefully in her 90th year. She was the loving mother of Deborah, who was by her side. Survived by Deborah and Gord Cheeseman, grandchildren Christopher (Mary), Michael (Stephanie) and Julia (Adrien) and her much-adored great-children Charlotte, Jack and Laura. She was predeceased by her siblings in Holland and her sister Margaret and brother-in-law Theo Wolder of Strathroy. She was extremely fond of her nephews in the Wolder clan, Tom (Marilyn), Theo (Betty Ann), Andre (Diane) and their children (especially Kathleen). All played an important role in her life. As proud post-war immigrants from The Netherlands, she and her husband Cor worked extremely hard, became Canadian Citizens quickly and constantly gave back to their community through charity and volunteer work. Kitty faced multiple adversities and triumphed consistently; she successfully re-invented herself professionally and beat cancer at mid-life and continued working into her eighties. As a highly experienced travel agent, she helped many others on their international voyages. She was proud to have travelled the world from the Great Wall to safari in Africa (and left all of us with a large collection of souvenirs!). Kitty made good friends throughout her life, including more recently during her stay at Inn on the Park in Sarnia as was evidenced by the constant stream of well-wishers at the hospital. At Kitty’s request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Grace United Church where she found great comfort and spirited discussion on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 11:00 am. Private interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. A special thanks to Dr. Lilly, the palliative care team and all the other kind professionals that assisted Kitty and us at Bluewater Health in Sarnia. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Bluewater Health Sarnia. Arrangements entrusted to the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia, N7T 5W9. Messages and memories of condolence may be sent through www.djrobb.on.ca.
