With heavy hearts we are saddened to announce the passing of Karoline ("Carol") Head at Charlotte Eleanor Englehart Hospital of Bluewater Health in Petrolia on Monday, July 11, 2016, at the age of 85 after a sudden illness. Predeceased by her father Jakob, her husband Keith, her sister Gretl, her mother Maria, and her sister Erika, Carol was the dearly beloved mother of Jeff of New Hamburg, Angela of Sault St. Marie, Greg of London, and Bruce of Peterborough, and grandmother of Allison and Keith. After the tragic death of her husband in the crash of Trans-Canada Air Lines Flight 831 in 1963, Carol raised her four young children completely on her own. She dedicated her life to helping others, first as a registered nurse in England and then at the former Sarnia General Hospital, and later as a case worker with provincial and municipal social services. A stubbornly independent woman to the very end, Carol was never afraid of voicing her opinions but she also had a kind and generous heart. After she retired, Carol continued to help others in times of need and those less fortunate than herself and donated to many charities. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In accordance with her wishes, Carol has been cremated and no memorial service will be held. Sympathy may be expressed by donations to Parkinson Society Canada.
