HORNER, JACK - Peacefully on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at St. Josephs Hospice in Sarnia, JOHN (JACK) CARROLL HORNER, age 65 of Sarnia, after a lengthy illness fought with courage has passed away. Beloved husband and best friend of Belinda (Kipp) Horner. Father of Lisa Glousher (Larry), Sheri Lyn Bryne (Chris). Much loved dad of Matthew Horner (Barb), and Bryson Horner. Loved Poppa of Ellie Horner. Brother of Mona Gibson (Grant) of Shawville, PQ, Jennifer Bowman (Tom) of Petrolia, Janey Gray of Sarnia. Brother in law of Barbara, Rosemary and Mary Margaret Horner, Donna and Ken Bent, Don Kipp, Murray Kipp. Son in law of Marg Kipp. He will be sadly missed by cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. Predeceased by son Clark, parents Beulah and Gerald Horner, father in law Don Kipp, brothers Bill, Clark, Wayne, Doug, Dan, sister Lenora Dunham, sister in law Gaye, niece Vicky Horner and nephew Jeff Horner. Jack was a Sarnia Police Officer for 34 years. He thoroughly enjoyed serving the Sarnia community and wore the uniform with tremendous pride. Jack received the Order of St. John as one of his awards of honour. While policing, Jack was also a Point Edward Volunteer Fireman. When he finished putting out fires he was Deputy Chief. Jack proudly wore his medals of Exemplary Service, 30 year Police and 20 year Fire Services. Jack was involved for many years with SMAA and PEMA. He was Past President and member of the Point Edward Optimist Club. He was a life member of the Point Edward Ex-Serviceman's Club, and a member of the Sarnia Police Retirees Association. Jack enjoyed a great many activities, boating at Bridgeview Marina, bowling, baseball and football. He played Junior Hockey with the Goderich Sifto's, golfed with L.A.R.G.A and Marshalled at Bonnie Doon Golf Club. From when Jack was a young boy, he thoroughly enjoyed fishing, however, he enjoyed most of all, time with family and friends at Cousin Ralph's Island in Lake Tomaggami. A service celebrating Jack's life will be held from the D.J. ROBB FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE on Tuesday, July 19th at 11:00 am. Interment of ashes will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Sunday, July 17th between the hours of 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Sarnia Kidney Foundation, CNIB or St. Joseph's Hospice would be appreciated.
