Joan Link

After living her life to the fullest, Margaret (Joan) Link passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hopsice, Sarnia on Jan.29, 2014. She was the loving wife of the late Bud Haveling (1970) & the late Peter Link (1982) Loving mother of Kathy Pilkey & her partner Deb McDonald of Claremont, & Karen Arbour & her husband Tim of Ottawa. Dear grandmother of Jane & John Pilkey of Sarnia. She is also survived, by sister Dorothy Landers (Ron), brother Jim Johnston (Muriel), sister- in-laws Susan Johnston, Janet Robertson (Les), & Carolyn Symington ( Terry). Pre-deceased by sister Kathleen (Kal) McTavish, & brothers George & Tom Johnston. Several nieces & nephews, who Aunt Joan dearly loved. Loving members of Joan's birthday club, Joy Kohut, Gayle Dunlop, Verna Thibault, Norma. Jean Smith, Elsie Corrigan, Carolyn Russell, Penny Cousins, Carol Osmond, Judy Kohut, Leanne Shearer & Linda Chivers. Special friend to Bruce, Brian & Greg Mellon. Joan was well known & respected in the Sarnia business community. She was the consummate volunteer & very dedicated to giving back & trying to enhance life in the City of Sarnia. She was the owner of Link Insurance Limited. Joan was a great athlete, shortstop & captain of the Sarnia Belles ladies fastball team, an avid curler & golfer & member of the Sarnia Golf & Curling Club. A founding member of the Sarnia Sports Hall of Fame, & member of the Sarnia Yacht Club. Joan was a Big Sister, board member of the Sarnia Community Foundation, the Chair of the Police Service Board, an IODE member, active in the Jerry McCaw YMCA, & chair of their Foundation. A long serving & active member of Central United Church. Joan loved politics at all levels, & was a stalwart volunteer in both the Provincial & Federal Liberal Associations. Joan spent her "dash" well. A celebration of Joan's life will be held at Central United Church on Mon. Feb. 3 at 11:00 am. Friends may visit the family at D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Sunday between the hours of 2-4 & 7-9. In lieu of flowers, friends may express sympathy through memorial donations to St. Joseph's Hospice, Sarnia, the Jerry McCaw YMCA of Sarnia Lambton, or the charity of your choice.
