Jacob Andrew Marsh

January 11, 1993 — April 9, 2020

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jacob Andrew Roy Marsh on Thursday, April 9, 2020. He was a beloved son, brother, step-father, uncle, friend and family to many.

Jacob lived with his heart on his sleeve, bringing a smile to whomever he met on his travels. Born in Barrie, Ontario and growing up in the surrounding area, Jacob was known for his sensitive, fun, loving nature, dramatic flair and imaginative stories. An avid music lover since childhood, he was often found spitting verses with friends, writing lyrics and poetry or listening to his favourite tunes.

Predeceased by his step-mother Donna Marie Doxtater (1960-2011) and youngest child of surviving parents, Marilyn Antoinette Marsh (58) and Richard Andrew Neil (58), Jacob leaves behind his sisters Jada Lee Ann Marsh (David Maw), Jessica-Ann O’Brien (Tyrone Rice) and Kandace Patricia Marsh (Keith Highgate) and his step-brother John Thomas MacArthur(Josie Colbary) as well as his  girlfriend Sierra Tobey and step - daughter Patience Estella Marie McKinnon.

He was the incredible and fun loving uncle to Cole, William, Anna and Clark Yablonksy (Jada Marsh), Richard “Rayne” Marsh (Kandace Marsh), Tyanna, Tyrese and Tyra Rise (Jessica O’Brien) and Grace MacArthur (John MacArthur). Jacob loved throwing the football and shooting hoops with his nephews and would frequently join in any the fun, his smile shining and heart full.

Jacob never did anything by halves. If he set his mind and heart to something, he gave it everything he had and more. As a child, Jacob dreamed of playing hockey. When he was finally given the opportunity to join a team he practiced hard and was determined to become the best player that he could and catch up with his teammates’ skill levels. It would come as no surprise to many that Jacob not only caught up but in fact excelled at the sport.

Jacob once posted:

“The thing I love about myself?

Any action or event that has or yet still to come, is executed with precision of a God. Every move I make is planned with grace. Negative and positive. Just because you see me with your own thoughts does not entitle a phrase of selflessness.

No truer statement could be made.

Jacob will forever be remembered by Doug Cochrane and his wife Ardith; Jacob’s Big Brother, mentor and hockey coach as a “charmer” who was “authentic and felt emotions to a fault”. He will be dearly missed and his memory forever treasured by those who knew and loved him.

In the wise words of Jacob:

“You only get one life. Don’t waste it, you never know when your time will come.”
