Jack Page

January 2, 1934 — February 2, 2014

Following a valiant struggle with prolonged illness, John "Jack" Lambert Page passed away peacefully on February 2nd with family by his side at St. Joseph's Hospice. Jack was a lifelong resident of Point Edward and a proud "Villager". He recently celebrated his 80th birthday on January 2, 2014. He is survived by loving daughter Elizabeth, son in law Mike, treasured grandchildren Justin, Nolan and Jamieson. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 49 years, Marilyn (Mamie), son Larry, daughters Ellen and Linda, his sister Barbara and former son in law Dave. Jack will be remembered by many wonderful nieces, nephews, close friends, neighbours and extended family. Jack loved his work at Sarnia Hydro where he spent 34 years forging lifelong friendships and enjoying the camaraderie that comes along with working closely with people he loved. Jack spent most of his adult life volunteering in various capacities. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed coaching both hockey and baseball. He was especially proud of winning successive Ontario Baseball Association Championships with men's hardball and women's softball. He served on both the Point Edward Minor Athletic Association and the Point Edward Volunteer Fire Department for several years. Jack was a life member of the Sarnia Legion Branch#62 and Point Edward Ex-Serviceman's Club. Perhaps his greatest contribution to our community was his decades of extensive involvement with the Point Edward Optimist Club. He was the last remaining chartered member having been involved in founding the club and worked tirelessly for over 50 years, fundraising and supporting valuable charitable organizations in our community. Jack was quietly proud of his work with the Optimist Club. He truly made a difference giving so generously of his time. He was always happiest when he was busy helping someone. In recent months while being cared for at Hospice, Jack found solace in the company of the incredible staff and volunteers at Hospice and his "regulars", family and friends that visited him without fail. He was humbled by the kindness, compassion and care from the Hospice folks. Jack's tenacity, sense of humour and generosity were enviable. He took pleasure in the simple things in life, spending time on his deck at the cottage having a cold beverage, going for a drive, visiting with friends and going to Florida every year with his gang. Few things made him happier than watching his grandsons play hockey or driving them to and from school. He sure loved being a Grandpa. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Friday, February 7th at 1:00 pm. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday between the hours of 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, Jack would very much appreciate donations to St. Joseph's Hospice. He quickly realized the importance of such a valuable resource in our community that provides exceptional care in such a specialized setting. Words cannot express our gratitude for the care dad received while in Hospice. It seemed a just reward for all of his years of giving.
"Special thanks to Dr. Gert Schleebusch and Dr. Glen Maddison, Dawn Nassar, Cathy Wark and Sara Lopetrone of Community Care Access and Deb Schmidt of Victoria Order of Nurses for their kindness, compassion and comprehensive care. Dad was most appreciative of each and every person who supported and cared for him during his illness."
