Gordon Matty Matthews Born March 17, 1925 - Died July 30, 2024

 With his loving family by his side, Gordon Matty Matthews, aged 99 years, passed away on Tuesday July 30, 2024 at Marshall Gowland Manor. Gordon is survived by his daughter Nancy Vella, son Ron Matthews, grandchildren Tina, Gordie, Jovana (Brian), Eric, Nikki (Taqqee), Melissa, Jaime (Summer), and many great grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife and mother of their children, Gladys (Causley - 1974), wife Phyllis (Pearce - 2016), son Gordon James Matthews and his wife Diane, daughter Barbara Thomson and her husband Jack, daughter Bonnie Bourassa, son in law Jim Vella, and granddaughter Dusty Vella. Gordon served his country and was a decorated WWII Army Veteran. Professionally, he was exceptionally skilled and possessed a strong work ethic. His career journey included; Tool and Die Maker at Mueller Brass, Life Insurance Agent at Metropolitan Life, and Lab Technician and Boilermaker at Imperial Oil. Gordon’s personal life was filled with simple pleasures. He spent many hours relaxing in his rocker recliner; reading or doing crosswords, while the baseball game was on tv or the radio, and enjoying a good cup of black coffee. He was an avid boater and a longtime member of the Sarnia Yacht Club. He cherished bus trips to Branson, Missouri and Toronto Blue Jays games with his wife Phyllis. In his most recent years, Gordon formed a special bond with Penny, the service dog, and loved their visits together during his time in Long Term Care. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Sarnia, ON. On Thursday August 8th, 2024 at 11:00 am. All are welcome to attend.
