Geraldine Mary Sokol

SOKOL, GERALDINE - On September 12 2022, our sweet mom Geraldine ‘Gerry’ Sokol (nee Baker) of Point Edward passed away peacefully at the age of 95 at Bluewater Health Palliative Care in Sarnia. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her children Dianne Schieman (Dave), Chris Payne (Murray), Janet Weiss, Judy Sokol, Teresa Sokol and Rob Sokol; grandchildren Jennifer Weiss (Paul), Adam Schieman (Dawn), Stephanie Vilas (Erik), Taylor Schieman, Daniel Weiss and Bradley Payne (James); great-grandchildren Carter and Claire Schieman, Orion Weiss and Sydney Vilas; brother Walter Baker; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Gerry was predeceased by her loving husband and partner of 65 years Robert (Bob) Sokol; parents Walter and Cecelia Baker; grandson Ryan Payne; and siblings William Baker, Kate Arnold, Elaine Runge, Arline Baker Dennis and Patricia Wortz. 

Her family will always remember her quiet, kind nature, her love of reading, enjoying time on the front porch in her rocking chair, long car rides while listening to her favourite Frank Sinatra tunes, the occasional arm wrestling match, gardening, and most of all - the love she had for her husband and family.  

Her home was always open and inviting, often with a big pot of homemade soup simmering on the stove. Mom’s home was always open to all of our friends making her a second Mom to many.  She always treated each of them as one of her own.  Every Sunday was family dinner at Mom’s, as well as every holiday and birthday. She loved having all of her kids together. She did so much for her family, we all cherished her and we will miss her dearly.

Heartfelt thanks to the staff at Bluewater Health Palliative Care and Dr. Crombeen for their care and compassion shown to Mom during her last days.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Gerry’s life will be held at the Point Edward Optimist Hall (211 Monk St. Point Edward) on Saturday November 5 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to the D.J.
