GEORGE ROBERT MATHIESON
On Thursday, December 12th, 2019, at Bluewater Health hospital in Sarnia, Ontario, George Robert Mathieson at the age of 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
George was a devoted husband to his wife, Bernice (Oliver) Mathieson, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage. He was a proud father of his daughters, Tammy Mathieson, and Cindy (Mathieson) Clarke, and never missed an opportunity to brag about their accomplishments. He thought highly of his son-in-laws, Justin Clarke, and Daniel Harbaugh, and adored his granddaughter, Arabella Mathieson-Harbaugh, who always brought the biggest smile to his face. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Beverly Mathieson, and several nieces and nephews who have always held a special place in his heart. He is predeceased by his twin sister Elizabeth Driscoll, brother-in-law Charles Driscoll and his older brother Ralph Mathieson.
George was an electrician by trade, and a very active member of IBEW Local 530 in Sarnia, where he sat as President of The Local 530 Retiree’s Club for several years. He was also a long-standing member of IBEW Local 2330 in Newfoundland. George was a conversationalist, who loved to get to know people and share stories. He was a helpful man, who never left anyone in need of assistance. He was a talented electrician, and all-around handy-man, who reconstructed his family’s home one room at a time. He was a lover of dogs, especially his King Charles Cavalier Spaniels, Bonnie and Drew. He enjoyed ending the day with a nice glass of Scotch Whisky while listening to jazz or classical music. George was extremely proud of his Scottish roots, and would wear or display the Mathieson Scottish tartan with pride on many occasions. He enjoyed his time working on model airplanes or flying RC model airplanes at The Bluewater R/C Flyers Field. In his youth, he was an aerial photographer who also took up photography as a hobby. He was an avid fan of the Montreal Canadians his entire adult life.
George was an incredible man, and will be greatly missed. We will keep him forever in our memories.
A special thank you to all the doctors and nurses that cared for him during his stay in the Complex Care/Palliative Unit at Bluewater Health. You made his experience there a bright and happy one, and we are forever grateful.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held for close friends and family on Sunday, December 22, 2019, from 3:00pm - 6:00pm, at 284 Maria Street, Sarnia, ON.
