GEORGE CHRISFIELD GANDER
“To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides”
Peacefully, at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Friday, October 19, 2018 George Chrisfield Gander passed away at the age of 90. Beloved husband of the late Berenice Catherine Mott and the father of Georgia Gander (Will Bartlett) and Geoffrey Gander (Donna). Dearly loved by four grandchildren, Jesse Pumple, Heather Gander, Craig Gander and Rachel Gander (Kyle Murray) and six great-grandchildren, Jack and Isaac Griffin, Matthew and Lilah Gander, and Max and Blaire Murray. He was predeceased by his three brothers, James, Robert and Ronald and will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews.
George, a life-long resident of Sarnia, proudly built his family home on Lakeshore Road, marked by the famous landmark, “The Ganders” sign. He was a dedicated employee of Imperial Oil and Esso Chemicals for 40 years and a loyal member of the Royal Canadian Artillery and later C Squadron 1st Hussars. Travelling was a life-long passion he shared with Berenice and together they enjoyed frequent trips to Florida, where George was the president of The Canada Club. After earning their pilot’s licenses, George and Berenice bought a Cessna and flew to many destinations. Master of all trades, George was cheerfully willing and able to lend a helping hand if there was something to fix or a problem to solve. Always strong in his faith, George believed and reminded us often that “the best is yet to come”.

A limb has fallen from the family tree that says, “Grieve not for me”.
Remember the best times, the laughter the song,
the good life I lived while I was strong.
