George Britton

BRITTON - George Arnold Norwood: October 23, 1949 - September 15, 2012 Early Saturday morning, George passed away peacefully at home in Sarnia, Ontario in his 63rd year. George was predeceased by his parents, Franklin and Enid Britton (nee Trotter), and his brother, Gerald Britton. He is survived by his companion of many years, Jean Mayer, as well as his sisters, Polly Brazeau (Jerry), and Kathy Pineo (Bert), and his brothers, Doug and Glenn Britton. George's children, Tina Bax, Jeremy Britton (Shannon Taylor), Heather Britton (John Netherway), and Jacalyn Britton, and granddaughter, Annabel Netherway, honour his memory and thank him for the gift of one another. George also leaves behind his nieces and nephews: Chuck Brazeau (Kerry), Tammy Witcher (Matt), Tracy Laker (Brian), and Ann-Marie Pineo, as well as several great nieces and nephews. George was genuine and hardworking; he was a member of A F of L Sheet Metal Workers' Local 539 in Sarnia and Sheet Metal Workers' International Association Local 30 in Toronto. Prior to his career as a Journeyman Sheet Metal Worker, he was a graduate of Sarnia Collegiate Institute and Technical School. He worked as a pinsetter at International Bowling, and pumped gas at Walker Neild Gas Bar in Sarnia. Apart from his education and training, George was a wealth of knowledge; he could tell you the wingspan of the American Bald Eagle, or how something worked from the inside out, and he could fix almost anything. George loved to travel. One of his favourite places was the Northwest Territories, where he held Sheet Metal License Number 00001, granted to him in the late 1970s. George appreciated the unlimited possibilities that Yellowknife represented to him. His free spirit took him on many adventures between Ontario and Western Canada; he would play é¢a‚A"quartersé¢a‚ to earn train fare to keep working, learning, and exploring. George loved the outdoors and had a special love for Calgary where he could travel easily into the mountains. His dream was to return to the West. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 24th, 2012 at 1:00pm at the Seaway Kiwanis pavilion at Canatara Park, 1200 Lake Chipican Drive, Sarnia. Please come as you wish: casual dress is fine. Per George's wishes, cremation has taken place. His ashes will be scattered in the mountains by his family at a later date. George was a spiritual man and though he struggled with his demons he looked for the potential in any situation. In lieu of flowers or a donation, we would ask that today you find something you've wanted to do and do it, or call someone you love and tell them. In honour of George's spirit, please fully embrace the potential of today.
