SYGROVE, Frederick Colls - Peacefully, after a courageous battle with COPD, at Vision Nursing Home on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 in his 87th year. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Alma Helen. Loving father and grandfather to Allan (Louise) and their children Jill Sanford and Laura (Rich Fitoussi); Brian (Megan) and their children Geoffrey and Jeremy (Rachael); Nancy (Ken) McLeod and their children Andrew (Lindsay) Thomas and Kevin Thomas. Loving great-grandfather to Seth, Turner, Mac, Logan, Olivia, Evan and Isabella and uncle to Jack Sygrove Jr. Predeceased by his parents Master John William (HMCS Grayburn) and Ada Sygrove, his brother Jack Sygrove (HMCS Grayburn) and his nephew Doug Sygrove. Fred was a veteran of WWII and reached the rank of Chief Petty Officer in the Canadian Volunteer Navy. He served on the HMCS Kentville and HMCS Uganda in the Battle of Atlantic from 1942 to 1945 and was in the Reserve the following 8 years. He was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 62. He retired from Dow Chemical in 1979 after 32 years of service. During his retirement, Fred enjoyed travelling, playing tennis, volunteering (and socializing) at the Legion and singing in the London Road West Church choir. A Royal Canadian Legion memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, October 14th at 3:00 pm. Followed by open visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at the D.J. ROBB FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 62 Poppy Fund or the Humane Society. The family would like to thank the 2nd Floor Nurses at Vision Nursing Home for their loving kindness, compassion and support given to Fred and his family during the last 6 months of his life. The D.
