It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Doris Phoenix (Tully) 83, of Sarnia at Twin Lakes Terrace Nursing Home on Friday, January 27, 2023. Doris passed peacefully, surrounded by family. Beloved wife and best friend of the late Raymond Phoenix (2010). Dear mother of Lorraine Doran (Jeff) of Newmarket and Larry Phoenix (Justene) of Corunna. Loving grandmother of Jacob Phoenix (Alex), Joshua Phoenix (Amber), Joseph Phoenix (Rebecca), Katie Doran and Sean Doran. Cherished great grandmother to Alyce, Oliver, Kaidance and Khloe. Dear sister to Evelyn Dooks of Ottawa and the late Helen Wurdell. Dear sister-in-law to Elaine and Bill Blaney of Dorchester, Jack and Julie Phoenix of London, and the late Bob Phoenix. Also surviving are her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Mary (Murphy) Tully. Doris trained as a nurse at Stratford General Hospital, working at hospitals in London and Sarnia. She worked briefly at Carruthers Clinic in Sarnia and for many years as the receptionist for Dr. Brian Tomka in Sarnia. Doris belonged to the George-Anna Square Dance Club with Ray for many years where she and Ray made many friends.Doris was a long-time member of St. Luke’s and High Park United Church where she was the organist and choir director. Doris also served as pianist for the Strangway Singers for several years. Doris experienced much joy singing and playing piano. She continued playing the piano right up until her final weeks.Much gratitude to the staff at Twin Lakes Terrace Retirement Residence and the Nursing Home for the loving care provided over the past two years and during her final days. A Celebration of Life will be held at the D.J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre Ltd. (102 Victoria Street, North, Sarnia, ON N7T 5W9) on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Private family interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada www.alzheimer.ca/en
