KNIGHT, DONALD - Donald George Knight “Don” passed peacefully but unexpectedly early Sunday morning September 11, 2016 at the age of 81. Don departs this life and moves on to a new journey, survived by his loving wife and best friend Carol. He was a proud and caring father of Scott (& Deanna) Knight, Rob (& Stephanie) Knight, predeceased by his daughter Carol; step-father of Tim (& Gail) Koehler and Debra Koehler; grandfather to Sam, Lucas, Andrew, Ryan, Joel, Julianne and Sarah. Born on March 31, 1935, Don was the eldest son of Albert & Eileen Knight and brother of Dianne Spencer, Barbara (& Paul) Thompson and Tom (& Jackie) Knight. Don’s short stint on one of the Imperial oil tankers ended abruptly at his loving father’s urging to move on. After two years at Ryerson Polytechnical School in Toronto, he graduated as an Instrument Technician and took a position at Dow Chemical where he worked for 13 years. Always ambitious, he studied for his degree in English at the University of Western Ontario and then began teaching at St. Clair Secondary School in Sarnia, retiring after a 26 year career. Don was many things and had many interests including the arts: literary, theatrical and culinary; sports: football, baseball, squash and curling; travel: Las Vegas, Caribbean and Europe. He was known for his hospitality, whether at his dining table, the pool side or having a chat at the pub. Many may not know, but Don had a green thumb and was known to can what he harvested from his ever bountiful vegetable garden. The family would like to express gratitude to the staff of Afton Park Place and the PSWs of CCAC who gave Don such good care. Don has chosen to be cremated and there will be a celebration of what was an impressive and rich life at the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club on Sunday, September 18, 2016 between the hours of 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Memorial donations may be directed to The Inn of the Good Shepherd to put food in people’s stomachs and a roof over their heads – Don always wanted people to be safe and comfortable. Arrangements are entrusted to the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre. Memories and messages of condolence may be sent through www.djrobb.on.ca
