FONT, DONALD -After a very short illness with his children at his side, Don passed away on January 19, 2021 at Bluewater Health. Born in Strathroy April 16, 1955 he lived most of his life in Sarnia. Don was predeceased by his soul mate Mary Jane (MacDonald) in 2015 and was the loving father of Jennifer (Mike) Brown, and Jeremy, he was Papa to Rachel. Loving brother to Karen Waller, Cheryl (Mike) Dunn of Sarnia and half-brother Rob (Susy) Perrin of London. Don was predeceased by his father Robert Font, stepmother Marg; brother Bill Font; brother in law-Rick Waller; mother Shirley Gorrie, stepfather Donald Gorrie and step-brother, Wayne Gorrie, in-laws Ed and Noreen MacDonald and nephew Greg Jones. Don is also survived by the MacDonald in-laws – Ann, Owen and Judy, Gerry and Dayle, Larry and Margie, Sharon, Cathy and Tim, Allan and Jeannie; Mike and Mary as well as many nieces and nephews, and a lifelong friend to Steve Jones.
Don was a man “whose word was his bond” - doing kind things for others and not looking for anything in return. His work ethic and commitment was evident during his working years in the Chemical Valley. Upon his retirement he enjoyed golfing, bowling and spending time with his family and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kim, VON Erie St. Clair District Homecare, the paramedics, the emergency department at Bluewater Health and the nursing staff on the Palliative floor that were amazing in his final hours.
“It is not illness that takes a loved one – but death comes when they have completed the work that was theirs to do on earth. It is then that God calls them home.”
Cremation will take place and a Memorial Tree will be planted in memory of Don. There will be no formal service or visitation due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic. Donations in memory of Don can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (donations can be made online through the link or the address posted below , cheques may also be mailed to the funeral home) .
