BLACK, Donald Alfred
(May 5, 1931 - September 7, 2015)
"I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it."
― Mark Twain
Don was a man of substance; a multi-dimensional, brilliant gentleman. He loved his family, his friends, and life. He was an athlete, a philosopher, a philanthropist, and a mechanical engineer by trade. Don was the glue that perpetuated the Sunday afternoon coffee club at Timmie's with his dear friends, Dorothy, Addie, Helen, Jimmy, Betty, Roberta, and Kerry. He always looked forward to meeting with his close friends, Bonnie and Jimmy; and his long-time friends, Sonny, Michael, and Edith. Don appreciated the fortune of good neighbours and, in particular, the support of the Thompson/Golob family for over half a century.
He took great pleasure in attending live theatre, dining out, politics, world news, CBC Radio, PBS, and TV Ontario. He followed the stock market religiously (and would be happy to know that the market is on a comeback this week). He loved to read. The Globe and Mail was a staple in his diet and he always had a book in hand.
He will be dearly missed here on earth but will now happily join his wife, Helen, and son, Randy. Don has relatives in Winnipeg, across Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island that bid him a fond farewell. Two special people in Don's life that will always treasure their close relationship with him are his niece, Pam, and his wonderful son, Kerry. "Enuf" said, dear Don. We love you.
In lieu of flowers, go out with a loved one for dinner and raise a glass to Don's rich and fulfilling 84 years and to your own beautiful life. Private family graveside services and interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the D.J. ROBB FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE.
