MACKINLAY, BERT – Too soon, after a life well lived, Bert Mackinlay passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, December 9th, 2019. He leaves behind his best friend and loving wife of forty years, Sharon MacKinlay, son Jonathan and his wife Alanna MacKinlay, daughter Elizabeth “Beth” MacKinlay and grandsons James and Andrew MacKinlay. He is also survived by brothers...Rob and his wife Wendi of Naples, FL, Dr. Duncan and his wife Ann, Tom and his wife Becky, both of Sarnia, and brother-in-law Dr. Alan Gandy and his wife Lori of Summerside, PEI. He is also survived by nieces and nephews; Rob (Stephanie), Meg, Joy (Joey), Andrew (Stephanie), Lauren (Brad), Ken (Carolina), Alison (Nick), Laura (Chad), Duncan (Jen), Ruth, Sara, Grace, Mallory, Jack and Molly (Sam). He is also survived his treasured Aunt, Helen Murray of Orillia, many cousins, and several grand nieces and nephews. Bert was predeceased by his parents Dr. Douglas and Pauline MacKinlay.
Bert enjoyed a satisfying thirty year career as a Research Technologist working in the lab for Imperial Oil. He retired in 2009. Following his retirement, Bert was able to enjoy an active life with his family and friends. As long time member of the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club he was an enthusiastic golfer. He loved to fish and looked forward to the annual fishing trips with his father, son and eventually his grandson. He was also fortunate to be able to travel with friends and family throughout his life both locally and abroad.
Cremation has already taken place and a private family memorial will be held. Visitation will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 102 N. Victoria St, Sarnia, ON, N7T 5W9) on Saturday, December 14, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. On Monday, December 16, 2019 friends and family are invited for a Celebration of Life at the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Prostate Cancer Canada, Nature Conservancy Canada or charity of choice.
