It is with deep sorrow we share the passing of Arthur Currie Giffin on Sunday, March 29th, 2009 at Sarnia General Hospital in his 92nd year. Arthur is survived by his wife Dorothy, his daughter and her husband Kathy and Peter Hungerford, grandchildren Sean and Ioana; and Ian and Stacey Hungerford. Also survived by Dorothy's family, son-in-law Steve Moyer, grandchildren Julie Swartz, Matt Moyer and Leslie Moyer; great grandchildren Michaela and Stephen Swartz, all of California. Lovingly remembered by nephews and nieces, Jay and Anne; Martin and Gail; and Andrew and Tina Nisbet. Arthur was predeceased by his first wife Katharine McLellan Giffin (1981) and his parents David (1957) and Della (1983) Giffin. Art became a member of St Georges'Anglican Church, while he was courting Katy in1940. Over his many years of membership he sang in the choir (off key, he said), served as Rector and People's warden, served on the board, and taught Sunday school. Arthur was awarded the Bishop's Award for Excellence in Ministry in 2006. He retired from Polysar where he worked as a draftsman and maintenance supervisor for 40 years. He was an avid golfer (of questionable skill, he said) and a founding member of Huron Oaks. He volunteered for the Sarnia General Hospital auxiliary for 20 years and continued to volunteer at the Strangway Hobby Shop weekly. He was a gifted carpenter; his hand crafted canes and boxes can be found amongst those he loved. Loving kindness and consideration to others were the cornerstone of my Dad's life. Arthur wanted Dr. Cornila and the nurses in Emerg and CCU to know how much he appreciated their kindness to him. He also wanted his grandchildren to remember how very much he loved them. There will be a memorial service at St. Georges Anglican Church, N. Vidal St at 11 am, April 4th, 2009. Visitation at the church prior to the service, reception to follow at the church, internment at Lakeview Cemetery following the reception. Expressions of sympathy to St. George's Anglican Church Memorial Hall. Arrangements by D. J. Robb Funeral Home. Messages of condolences may be sent to djrobbfh@ebtech.net.
